You DO NOT want a roommate. Who does? But you’ll have to get one unless you want to move back to mom’s. There’s simply no way you can afford the rent on your own, not on what you make flipping patties at a local burger joint.

The quest for a roommate, however, could very well turn into a search for the Holy Grail. This is why you need to check out government public records, such as those found in Gov-Records, when you screen potential roommates. You never know – the person you end up living with could be a psycho and you just might end up no different from those you make a living at flipping – burger meat.

But wait! Before you go trawling through government public records, you have to make sure you really are ready for a roommate. Your budget may leave you no choice but are you sure you can handle sharing your living space? Take this quiz to find out.

1. You have to talk to your girl. Where do you make the call?
a) In the living room where your roommate is also watching television
b) In your room (and you don’t particularly care if the door’s open or shut)
c) Inside a closet with a shirt shoved underneath the door

2. You come home to find your roommate crying. You
a) ask what’s wrong, and if she says nothing, you shrug the noise away.
b) offer to help, whatever it is she’s crying about
c) pretend you don’t hear anything and turn the TV on instead.

3. Your roommate whips up a dinner for friends and invites you along. You

a) eat, sit, and speak only when spoken to.
b) talk to the friends as if they’re your own.
c) eat and run.

If your answers are mostly – if not entirely – Cs, forget about cross-checking identity references with government public records. You are not ready to share your living space and at this point, it would only be heartbreaking and gut-wrenching to try.
